GREENVILLE, SC (September 19, 2022) – The Claflin University men’s and women’s cross country teams returned to the course with some solid performances, Saturday morning. The Panthers and Lady Panthers turned in some great results and finishes against some of the top teams on the East coast.
The Lady Panthers got the day started in a big way in the women’s 5K run. It was the young runners on the team who led the way in Saturday’s meet. Sophomore
Madison McDonald continued to prove that she was one of the top runners in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) with a solid performance of her own. She placed 52
nd in the event with a team-best 21:27.14. Freshman Skyler Adams added an impressive 25:46.69 at the meet as well. Freshman Phejjana Burnside placed 71
st with a 26:20.04 while senior
Nytajah Smalls placed 72
nd with a 26:23.92 to round out the top four for the Lady Panthers.
The Panthers had a youth movement of their own in the men’s 5K run. Once again, freshman Reginald Gore led the team when he placed 42nd with an 18:00.70 to lead the team. Fellow freshman Jakarriez Sanders added a 45th placed finish with an 18:13.75. Senior Caleb Patterson placed 48th with a 18:27.42.
The Lady Panthers and Panthers will return to action, Friday, October 7th when the teams take part on the Queens (NC) Invitational.
