ORANGEBURG, SC (January 18, 2022) – The SC State track and field teams post a combined 13 top 10 finishes, including six top 5 performances, Saturday at the USC Opener hosted by the University of South Carolina. Among the performances were seven personal records by Coach Jerod Wims‘ teams.
Top performances by the women included Stephanie Jobe, third in the triple jump (11.13m, 36-06.25 ft.); the 4x400m relay team “A” (Tanryn Thorn, Angelica Frederick, Ra’Necia Brown,
Domonique Edmondson), 3:52.53, the best mark in 14 seasons; Jada Banks – the reigning MEAC Cross Country Champion — eighth in the mile run (5:13), the top time in the MEAC this season; and the 4x400m relay team “B” (Debrielle Williams, Jasmine Donovan, Maya Smith and Jobe), ninth in the 4×400 m relay, 4:06.91.
Top showings by the men included Erick Hill, second in the long jump (7.4m, 24-03.50 ft.), the top mark in the MEAC this season; Dexter Ratliff – the reigning MEAC discus champion — third in the weight throw (13.97m, 45-10 ft.); the 4x400m relay team (Devin Brewington, Hill, Tyler Jeffers, Matron Thornton), third (3:21.45); Ratliff, fourth in the shotput (12.46m, 40-10.50 ft.); Jaden Barker, sixth in the 400 meters (49.91); Jeffers, eighth in the 800 meters (1:58.90); Brewington, ninth in the 200 meters (21.92); and Hill, 10th in the 200 meters (22.02).
SC State returns to USC Friday for the two-day (Jan. 21st -22nd ) Carolina Challenge.
