ORANGEBURG, SC (November 28, 2021)—Redshirt sophomore Cameron Jones tossed in a team-high 20 points, seven rebounds and five assist, but South Carolina State (1-7) fell short in overtime, 91-79, to The Citadel (4-2) Sunday (Nov. 28th) at Smith- Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
Graduate transfer Ed Oliver-Hampton recorded the teams only double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while true freshman TJ Madlock chipped in 16 points, five rebounds and two steals in the loss. Madlock was also a perfect 7of-7 from the charity stripe in 32 minutes of play.
Rakim Gary added an extra spark off the bench with 11 points and freshman forward Jemal Davis with six points and eight rebounds on the day.
Despite the loss, the Bulldog defense forced a game-high 16 turnovers while leading in several categories including Points off Turnovers (18-17), Second Chance Points (13-10) and Bench Points (38-26).
Next up South Carolina State will be on the road at South Florida in a non-conference matchup at 7 p.m. in Tampa. FLA on Friday, December 3, 2021. Game will be televised on ESPN+
