NORFOLK, Va., (March 29, 2022) —South Carolina State sophomore Waddell Rembert-Jett was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today
Others receiving honors were, Howard senior Jessica Wright was selected as Women’s Track Athlete of the Week. Coppin State sophomore’s Jeff Hammond was named Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, while Morgan State sophomore Tia Jackson earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors.
Rembert-Jett (So., Columbia, S.C.) helped establish a MEAC best so far this outdoor season this past weekend at the Weems Baskin Invitational. He won the 100 meters in a MEAC- and personal-best 10.39, and he helped the Bulldogs’ 4×400-meter relay team come in second overall (and the top college team) with a 3:14.08.
Wright (Sr., Durham, N.C.) ranks sixth in the nation in the 400-meter hurdles after running a 57.36 in the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, where she finished third.
Hammond (So., Kumasi, Ghana) won the long jump at the Weems Baskin Invitational, leaping a program-record 7.80 meters (25 feet, 7.25 inches). That mark is the best in the MEAC this season and would be ninth-best in the nation were it not wind-aided.
Jackson (So., Bristol, UK) leaped 5.92 meters (19 feet, 5.25 inches) to win the long jump at the Weems Baskin Invitational. That mark is the second-best in the MEAC so far this season and tied for 62nd nationally.
Other Top Performers
Latifa Ali (Coppin State) was second in the 100 meters at the Weems Baskin in 11.58, .01 seconds off her own school record.
Amadou Ba (Coppin State) was third in the 800 meters at the Weems Baskin, running a 1:53.82.
Dylan Beard (Howard) ran a 14.04 in the preliminaries of the 110-meter hurdles at the Texas Relays, tied for 32nd in the nation.
Janoi Brown (Maryland Eastern Shore) won the 400 meters at the Weems Baskin, turning in a MEAC-best 48.27.
Indya Hansley (Maryland Eastern Shore) was fourth in the discus at the Weems Baskin, establishing a new PR and ranking third in the MEAC at 11.64 meters.
James Perkins (Maryland Eastern Shore) threw the javelin a MEAC-best 48.28 meters at the Weems Baskin.
Zackery Dillon (Morgan State) was second in both the discus (53.28m) and the shot put (16.80m) at the Weems Baskin.
Marvin Jones (North Carolina Central) cleared 2.00 meters in the high jump at the Raleigh Relays, sitting sixth.
