NORFOLK, Va., May 3, 2023—South Carolina State senior Dexter Ratliff was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Field Athlete of the Week presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today.
Others earning honors, were Norfolk State sophomore Gidion Sigei was named MEAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, and Howard University junior Darci Khan selected as Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced today.
Morgan State junior Tia Jackson earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, respectively.
Ratliff (Sr., Beaufort, S.C.) set the MEAC’s best mark in the men’s discus throw at the University of North Florida East Coast Relays, coming in seventh in the event with a mark of 49.17 meters (161 feet, 4 inches). He is also fourth in the MEAC in the men’s hammer throw after tossing it 47.96 meters (157 feet, 4 inches).
Sigei (So., Kericho, Kenya) set the MEAC’s best mark in the men’s 5,000 meters this past weekend at the historic Penn Relays, running a personal-best 14:11.64 to finish among the top 15.
Khan (Jr., Stockbridge, Ga.) won the college women’s 100-meter hurdles at the Penn Relays, running a 13.18, edging runners from North Carolina A&T State and Texas A&M for the gold medal.

Tayshaun Chisholm (Delaware State) was second in the men’s 110-meter hurdles at the Penn Relays, running a 13.75.
Tyrell Martin (Delaware State) won the men’s shot put at the Delaware Invitational with a mark of 14.54 meters.
John Purvis (Morgan State) was 13th in the men’s shot put at the Penn Relays with a distance of 16.45 meters.
Donnell Carter (North Carolina Central) won the men’s 400 meters at the App State Open, turning in a 47.13.
Brenden Finger (North Carolina Central) won the men’s high jump at the App State Open, clearing 1.88 meters.
Laila Jackson (North Carolina Central) won the women’s 800 meters at the App State Open, running a 2:14.94.
Tia Lucas (North Carolina Central) came in second in the women’s high jump at the App State Open with a mark of 1.62 meters.
Waddell Rembert-Jett (South Carolina State) set personal bests in the men’s 100 meters (10.22) and 200 meters (21.58) at the North Florida East Coast Relays.
