WINSTON-SALEM, NC (February 10, 2024) – The Claflin Panthers (14-9, 10-4 CIAA) took a tough 63-61 road loss to the Winston-Salem State Rams (15-8, 9-5 CIAA), Saturday. The Panthers tied the game heading into the final seconds, but the team allowed a WSSU jumper with four seconds left to play and were unable to answer in the tough loss.

The loss came despite a great overall effort. The Panthers shot 37.9% (22-of-58) from the floor in the loss. The Panthers had another balanced attack in the loss with four players reaching double-digit scoring. Three Panthers scored 11 points each with junior forward Zion Obanla recording 11 points with eight rebounds while senior center Timothy McElroy added 11 points with seven rebounds. Senior guard Bryson Dennis added 11 points with three steals while junior guard Michael Shuler added a season-high 10 points.

With the loss, the Panthers fall to 14-9 overall and 10-4 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play. The team will return to action, Wednesday, when they will head to Raleigh, North Carolina to take on the Shaw Bears.
