McKenzie Gay vs. Voorhees

ORANGEBURG, SC (March 4, 2023) – The Claflin Panthers (0-12, 0-8 PBC) played some solid baseball, but some late struggles proved costly in the 19-1 loss. As a team, the Panthers were able to play well at times, but some sixth inning struggles proved to be too much for the team to overcome in the loss.

As a team, the Panthers had a strong game. The team totaled seven hits in the game, but only one run was scored in the loss. In the fourth inning, junior centerfielder Duane Henderson, Jr. hit an RBI groundout that scored sophomore short stop Joshua Cooper. Henderson, Jr. went one-for-three at the plate with a run batted in (RBI). Six more Panthers totaled a hit each. Sophomore right fielder Jelani Howard and senior second base Austin Montgomery both hit doubles in the game.

Senior McKenzie Gay (0-5) got the start and took the pitching loss. He went three full innings for the Panthers with a strikeout. Sophomore Michael Coit, junior Christopher Holley, and senior Gabriel McKenzie all made pitching appearances as well.

With the loss, the Panthers fall to 0-12 overall and 0-8 in Peach Belt Conference play. The two teams will close out the weekend series tomorrow.
