COLUMBIA, SC (February 4, 2023) – With the upcoming conference championships in sight, the Claflin University men’s and women’s track & field teams put on some terrific performances at the South Carolina Invitational track & field meet, Saturday. Both the Lady Panthers and Panthers saw some great performances at the Carolina Indoor Track & Field complex.
It was on the track where the Lady Panthers made their mark. For the second straight season, sophomore Zoe Adams ran an NCAA Division II women’s indoor track & field provisional qualifying time when she placed 11th in the women’s 400m dash invite section. She ran a 56.86 to become the first qualifier from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). The Lady Panthers’ 4x400m relay team also had a big day when they placed 13th in the event with a 4:01.80. The time is the fourth best in the CIAA.
For the Panthers, the middle-distance runners also had a strong day. Freshman Reginal Gore solidified his top time in the men’s 800m run with a 1:55.24 in the event. The time placed him 15th at the meet. Sophomore Zion Murry placed 26th at the meet with a 1:57.77 while freshman Jakarriez Sanders placed 29th with a 1:58.33 at the meet. The times are the three best in the CIAA this season. Gore’s day wasn’t done when he ran a 4:32.07 in the men’s mile run. He placed 49th at the meet, but the time is the best in the CIAA.
The preparations are done for the Lady Panthers and Panthers as the teams will next take the track in the 2023 CIAA Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Championship Meet at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
