ORANGEBURG, SC (March 4, 2023) – The Claflin Panthers (0-13, 0-9 PBC) played well late into the game, but the team faded late in a 14-1 loss to the Columbus State Cougars (14-3, 8-1 PBC), Sunday afternoon. The Panthers gave up five ninth-inning runs in the game.
As a team, the Panthers had a solid day at the plate. The team totaled five hits in the game. Sophomore short stop Joshua Cooper led the way with a two-for-four batting effort with a run batted in (RBI). Junior centerfielder Dwight Priest, Jr. added a double.
Claflin senior Charles Jackson (0-2) took the pitching loss as he started the game and went four innings. He finished the game with three strikeouts in the game. Junior Duane Henderson, Jr. came in for three innings and recorded a strikeout.
With the loss, the Panthers fall to 0-13 overall and 0-9 in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play. The team will return to action, Tuesday afternoon, when the team heads to Savannah, Georgia to take on the Savannah State Tigers.
