Panthers Break Into NABC Top 25 for the First Time Since 2018

KANSA CITY, MO (January 1, 2023) – When the 2022-23 basketball season started, the Claflin Panthers were one of the best kept secrets in the nation, but that secret may be out as the team entered the top 25 ranking of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) last Sunday. The Panthers entered the ranking after a 9-1 start to the basketball season.

The Panthers returned to the top 25 for the first time since 2018, when the team got the season started with a 17-1 record to open the season. That team went on to win the 2018 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Championship and reached the semifinals of the NCAA Division II South Regional Tournament.

The Panthers last took a thrilling 85-84 overtime road win over the Clayton State Lakers on New Year’s Eve. The team will return to action, Thursday, when they take on the #19 Virginia Union Panthers at Barco-Stevens Arena in Richmond, Virginia.
