ORANGEBURG, SC (April 15, 2023) – The Claflin Panthers (1-31, 0-23 PBC) gave a great effort, but the team could not quite get what they needed in a 13-3 loss to the Georgia College & State Bobcats (16-20, 13-9 PBC), Saturday afternoon. The Panthers had some moments of solid play, but the GCSU offense was a bit too much for the Panthers to overcome in the hard-fought loss.
As a team, the Panthers had a solid day at the plate. The team totaled seven hits in the game with senior catcher DeShawnte Carraway leading the way with a two-for-three batting effort with a walk. Junior outfielder Kobe Miller went one-for-three with a triple and a run scored. Senior third base Da’Avion Sumpter added two runs batted in (RBI).
Claflin senior Kyle Hawkins (0-11) got the starting nod and he threw six full innings with three strikeouts. Fellow senior Jadin Harden also came in for 1.2 innings and he added a strikeout.
The two teams would go on to complete the doubleheader later in the day. For more information on Panthers baseball, contact the Claflin University Office of Athletics Media Relations at (803) 535-5548 or log on to www.athletics.claflin.edu.
