SALEM, VA (October 28, 2021) – The Claflin University men’s cross country had to step up for a solid performance at the 2021 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Cross Country Championship Meet. The team overcame some adversity and stepped up to have a solid seventh place finish at the meet.
“Our top guy did not finish, and we were still able to finish seventh,” Jackson added. “Some guys really stepped up.”
The Panthers had an impressive performance with a seventh-place finish on 203 points. However, the team had to do it without its top performer who was unable to finish the meet. Freshman Chandar Anderson led the way for the Panthers with a 33:41.6 in the men’s 8K run to place 29th. Fellow freshman Clarence Smith, III added a 41st place finish with a 35:51.5. Junior LaCarlos Watlington added a 42nd place finish with a 36:14.8.
With the finish, the team wraps up the 2021 cross country season. The Panthers will now turn their attention to the indoor track & field season with the goal of improving every year.
