Morris Named CIAA Food Lion Defensive Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, NC (December 18, 2023) – Claflin senior guard Nya Morris had the best week of her career for the Lady Panthers and it paid off in a big way Monday afternoon. She was named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Food Lion Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week.

It was her dynamic performance in a pair of games for the Lady Panthers that brought home the honor. For the week, she totaled 19 rebounds (12 defensive) with seven total steals in two games. She began the week with a near double-double performance with 10 points and nine rebounds with four steals against Lincoln (Pa.), Monday. She followed that effort with an even better showing when she had a career-best double-double with 36 points and 10 rebounds and three steals in a 78-51 win at Elizabeth City State.

Her work isn’t done as she and the Lady Panthers will return to action this evening when they head to Ettrick, Virginia to take on the Virginia State Trojans at 5:30 p.m. For more information on Lady Panthers basketball, contact the Claflin University Office of Athletics Media Relations at (803) 535-5548 or log on to
