ORANGEBURG,SC (May 2, 2022)--The South Carolina State women’s tennis team, fresh off winning the 2022 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) championship, will face No. 1 overall seed North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C., in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Tennis Championships.
Date and time are yet to be announced. Iowa State and South Carolina will also be in Chapel Hill.
The Bulldogs (9-9) won their third straight title and 16th overall on Saturday with a 4-0 win over Howard at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C. They are led by First Team All-MEAC honoree Rachida Berjane and MEAC Championship Outstanding Performer Nalanda Silva.
UNC (24-2) enter the postseason ranked No. 1 in the nation, despite losing in the regular-season finale against Duke and in the ACC semifinals to Virginia.
This weekend will see first- and second-round matches on campus sites, followed May 13-14 by Super Regionals. The championships will wrap up starting on May 20 in Champaign, Ill. Every match of the 2022 NCAA Tennis Championships will be streamed live on the TennisONE app.
