SALISBURY, NC (October 19, 2022) – The Claflin University women’s cross-country team had another strong day when the team placed third at the Livingstone XC Invitational, Tuesday afternoon. During the meet, sophomore Madison McDonald continued to show why she is one of the top runners in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA).
“The women’s team ran really well. Madison set a new personal record and freshman Pheijana Burnside is finally starting to improve and believe in her ability to help the team,” Claflin women’s cross country head coach Garon Jackson said. “The women showed a lot of heart and our focus is to keep working.”
The team had several terrific individual performances at the meet. McDonald led the way when she placed second in the women’s 5K run. She set a personal record with a 21:03.2. Burnside added a 12th place finish when she ran a 25:16.1. Fellow freshman Skyler Andrews added a 13th place finish when she ran a 25:26.7. Senior Nytajah Smalls added a 15th place finish with a 25:54.6 while junior Kristian Goss placed 16th with a 26:04.8.
The Lady Panthers will return to action next Thursday when the team takes part in the 2022 CIAA Women’s Cross-Country Championship Meet.
