NORFOLK, Va., Dec. 23, 2021—Freshman guard MeKayla Lumpkin was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola the conference announced.

Others earning honors were Maryland Eastern Shore graduate guard/forward Amanda Carney and Coppin State redshirt junior guard Aliyah Lawson were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, while Norfolk State senior guard Camille Downs earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Lumpkin (5-4, Fr., G, Birmingham, Ala.) had the best game of her young collegiate career against Western Carolina, dropping a team- and season-high 15 points on 4-for-6 shooting – including a perfect 3-for-3 effort from 3-point range. She was also 4-for-4 from the free throw line and chipped in a pair of steals.

Other Top Performers
Carney (5-9, Gr., G/F, Old Bridge, N.J.) averaged 15.0 points in two games for the Hawks this past week, going a combined 11-for-19 (.579) from the floor and 8-for-14 (.571) from 3-point range. She hit three treys in an 11-point effort against La Salle, before dropping a season-high 19 points – on 7-for-11 shooting and 5-for-7 from behind the arc – against UNC Greensboro.

Lawson (5-7, r-Jr., G, Ontario, Canada) averaged 15.3 points across three games for the Eagles this past week, to go along with 4.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists. She opened with 14 points, hitting four 3-pointers, and six assists against Pitt, before turning in back-to-back 16-point efforts against Saint Peter’s and Georgetown. She also had five rebounds against Saint Peter’s, and the Georgetown game saw Lawson hit a season-high five 3-pointers and dish out three assists.

Downs (5-10, Sr., G, Fredericksburg, Va.) tied her Norfolk State career high with six steals this past Sunday against Old Dominion.

Jalynda Salley (Coppin State) grabbed 14 rebounds to go along with two steals and a block in a win over Saint Peter’s.

Jewel Watkins (Coppin State) had 12 points and six rebounds against Georgetown.

Unique Miller (Delaware State) grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds against Fairleigh Dickinson.

Joy Watkins (Delaware State) had 12 points against Fairleigh Dickinson.

Krislyn Marsh (Howard) had 11 points, nine rebounds, four blocks and two steals at George Washington.

Dahnye Redd (Morgan State) had 15 points, four rebounds and three steals against Loyola (Md.).

Mahoganie Williams (Norfolk State) dropped 15 points and grabbed five rebounds against Old Dominion.

Necole Hope (North Carolina Central) dropped 13 points and grabbed a pair of steals against North Carolina A&T State.

Paris McBride (North Carolina Central) had five steals and a block against North Carolina A&T State.
