Lauren Scott vs. North Greenville


ORANGEBURG, SC (January 5, 2024) – The Claflin Lady Panthers (4-7, 1-5 CIAA) had a solid start, but the team faded in an 81-65 loss to the Bluefield State Big Blue (9-4, 2-2 CIAA), Thursday evening. Though the Lady Panthers played some solid offense in the game, the team could not get the defensive stops that they needed against the Big Blue.

The loss came despite a strong offensive showing by the Lady Panthers. The team shot a solid 40.7% (24-of-59) from the floor, but the team struggled from long range, shooting 26.5% (five-of-19) from the three-point line. The team also committed 18 turnovers in the game. Claflin junior Lauren Scott led the way for the team with 21 points in the game. Claflin senior forward Destiny Coleman added 15 points with five rebounds. Senior guard Nya Morris added nine points with six rebounds.

The Lady Panthers had a solid start to the game, but faded as the time went on throughout the game. The team opened the game with an 11-4 run, but the team ended the quarter trailing, 18-20. From there, the Lady Panthers would get a pair of one-point leads in the second quarter, but the team would never get back into control as they ended the day with the loss.

With the loss, the Lady Panthers fall to 4-7 overall and 1-5 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play. The team will return to action, Saturday when they head to Augusta, Georgia to take on the Paine Lions.
