Caytlyn Sanford Action at Virginia State

ETTRICK, VA (September 30, 2023) – The Claflin Lady Panthers (5-3, 1-2 CIAA) gave a great effort, but some untimely miscues proved costly in a three-set loss to the Virginia State Trojans (3-7, 2-0 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. The 24-26, 23-25, and 19-25 loss came on the opening day of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Volleyball Round Up.

The Lady Panthers played a solid, efficient match on offense, but the team struggled in receiving serves in the loss. As a team, the Lady Panthers totaled just eight attack errors in the match. However, it was the team’s 14 receiving errors that cost them the loss. Claflin senior utility Kyndall Perry led the way for the Lady Panthers with eight kills in the match. Junior outside hitter Taylin Johnson added six kills with three total blocks (two solo) while freshman opposite side hitter Caytlyn Sanford added five kills as well.

With the loss, the Lady Panthers fall to 5-3 overall and 1-2 in CIAA play. The team will close out the CIAA Volleyball Round Up tomorrow when they take on the Lincoln (Pa.) Lady Lions before closing out the weekend against the defending CIAA champion Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings.
