ETTRICK, VA (October 1, 2023) – The Claflin Lady Panthers (6-3, 2-2 CIAA) got back to their winning ways, Sunday morning when the took a three-set win over the Lincoln (Pa.) Lady Lions (3-9, 0-4 CIAA). Although the Lady Panthers were able to come away with the three-set match win, the team had to contend with a determined Lady Lions team that refused to take the loss easily.
The Lady Panthers offense was as efficient as usual, but the team’s defense and strong service game powered the team to the victory. As a team, the Lady Panthers totaled 15 service aces in the match. Junior setter Jakeya Paylor did much of the damage with seven service aces. The team also totaled six blocks (none solo) with 62 digs to claim the win. Claflin juniors Keymara Coleman and Taylin Johnson combined to lead the way for the team with seven kills each. Fellow junior Jaide Holliday added five kills as well.
With the win, the Lady Panthers improved to 6-3 overall and 2-2 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play. The team will close out the CIAA Volleyball Round Up with a 3:00 p.m. match against the Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings.
