CHARLOTTE, NC (October 7, 2023) – For the second time in 10 days, the Claflin Lady Panthers (7-4, 3-3 CIAA) clawed their way to a five-set victory. After taking a pair of losses in the first two sets, 16-25, and 18-25, the Lady Panthers stormed back to win the final three sets of the match, 25-15, 25-22, and 15-9 to claim the road victory.
It was a powerful offensive attack that was combined with a solid defensive effort that led the Lady Panthers to the win. As a team, the Lady Panthers totaled a season-high 49 kills in the match. The team also added nine service aces in the win as well. Junior outside Taylin Johnson led the way with 13 kills for the Lady Panthers. Fellow junior utility Keymara Coleman added a season-high 11 kills as well. Coleman was also a leader on the Lady Panthers defensive effort as she joined junior middle blocker Jaide Holliday with five total blocks (none solo) each. Senior opposite side hitter Kyndall Perry added 15 digs with a block (none solo).
With the win, the Lady Panthers improve to 7-4 overall and 3-3 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play. The team will return to action, Monday, when the team hosts the Fayetteville State Broncos.
