ORANGEBURG, SC (April 28, 2023) – The Claflin Lady Panthers (24-10, `0-2 CIAA) fell just short in their bid for a 10th straight win when the team took a 6-5 loss to the Winston-Salem State Rams (19-11, 12-4 CIAA). After falling into an early deficit, the Lady Panthers staged a furious late rally, but the effort was not enough as the team ended the day with the tough loss.
The loss came despite a great effort that plate for the Lady Panthers. As a team, the Lady Panthers totaled nine hits in the game. Senior outfielder Kennedy Baskerville led the way with a three-for-four batting effort with a double, a triple, a run scored and a run batted in (RBI). Freshman catcher Zecariya Fenwick went two-for-four with a run scored.
Claflin sophomore Breyanna Collins (9-5) took the pitching loss. She started the game and she finished with five runs allowed (five earned) in 1.2 innings. Senior Jaelyn Jackson came in for 5.1 innings and she finished the game with one run allowed (none earned) with six strikeouts.
With the loss, the Lady Panthers fall to 24-10 overall and 10-2 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play. The Lady Panthers will return to action tomorrow when the team hosts the Fayetteville State Broncos in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
