Claflin vs. WSSU CIAA Semifinals


ORANGEBURG, SC (February 2, 2024) – The Claflin Lady Panthers (0-1) had a dramatic start to the 2024 season. Unfortunately, the team came up on the short end of a 3-2 loss to the Augusta (Ga.) Jaguars (2-1), Friday afternoon. After allowing three runs to the Jaguars in the first two innings, the Lady Panthers clamped down on defense to hold them scoreless for the remainder of the game. The team would answer with a pair of sixth-inning runs, but they could not get any more in the loss.

The Lady Panthers had a solid game against some tough defense. The team totaled five hits in the loss with sophomore catcher Zecariya Fenwick leading the way once again. She finished the game with a tow-for-three showing with two runs batted in (RBI). Senior pitcher Jaelyn Jackson and junior centerfield Aniya Jones both added one-for-three batting efforts of their own as well.

Jackson (0-1) took the pitching loss. She started the game and threw all seven innings. She finished the game with three runs allowed (three earned) on seven total hits She also recorded a pair of strikeouts.
