ORANGEBURG, SC (March 1, 2023) – The Claflin Lady Panthers (6-6) staged a furious comeback, but the team fell just short in an 11-8 loss to the Converse Valkyries (8-10), Wednesday evening. After falling into an 11-2 deficit, the Lady Panthers scored six unanswered runs, but could not pull out the win.
The Lady Panthers took the loss despite a great hitting effort. As a team, the Lady Panthers had a great day at the plate with 10 total hits in the game. Claflin senior right fielder Brenay Howard led the way with a two-for-four batting performance with two runs scored, two runs batted in (RBI), and a triple. Freshman outfielder MyKenzie Overton was two-for-three with a run scored.
Sophomore Breyanna Collins (3-3) took the pitching loss. She started the game and went four innings with two strikeouts and only one walk. Senior Jaelyn Jackson came in for three innings and she finished with three strikeouts and only one hit allowed.
With the loss, the Lady Panthers fall to 6-6 overall. The team will return to action next Tuesday when the host Harris-Stowe State in a doubleheader.
