Lady Panthers' Historic Season Leads to #2 Seed in 2024 CIAA Women's Basketball Tournament

CHARLOTTE, NC  (February 26, 2024) – The Claflin Lady Panthers are having their best season since joining the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and their efforts have paid off as the team earned a second seed heading into the 2024 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament. After compiling a 16-10 overall record and a 10-8 record in CIAA play, the Lady Panthers have just completed their best season since joining the conference in 2018.

After completing the record-setting regular season, the Lady Panthers finished with a 9-3 record in the CIAA Southern Division, just behind division leader Fayetteville State. The second place divisional finish has been the best that the team has had since joining the conference. After a slow start to the season, the Lady Panthers came on strong in January and the strong play continued throughout the remainder of the regular season with a 13-4 record since January 1st. The team’s only losses came against non-division foe Bluefield State, a pair of losses to division champion Fayetteville State, and a road loss at Johnson C. Smith.

With the second-seed in the CIAA Southern Division, the Lady Panthers will take the court on Thursday, when the team takes on the winner of the Virginia Union/Shaw game on Tuesday.
