WINSTON-SALEM, NC (April 23, 2022) – The Claflin Lady Panthers (16-13, 14-1 CIAA) got back to their ways with a dominating 10-0 road win over the Winston-Salem State Rams (12-9, 9-4 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. The Lady Panthers controlled all facets of the game to claim the win.
The Lady Panthers put on a strong showing both at the plate and in the field to claim the win. Offensively, the Lady Panthers totaled 10 hits in the game while allowing just two hits with no fielding errors. Junior Alexandria Beavers led the way for the Lady Panthers, going two-for-three at the plate with three RBI and two runs scored. Junior short stop Jaelyn Jackson added a two-for-three batting effort with three runs scored and two RBI.
The Lady Panthers jumped out to a big lead early with two first inning runs and five second-inning runs to take a 7-0 lead. The team added three more runs in the fourth inning to take their lead to double-digits, 10-0. From there, the Lady Panthers clamped down on defense to claim the win.
Claflin senior Bre’Zhay Chambers (8-5) took the pitching win. She started the game and threw all five innings. She finished the game with no runs allowed on just two hits with nine strikeouts. She also only allowed two walks.
With the win, the Lady Panthers improve to 16-13 overall and 14-1 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play. The two teams would go on to complete the doubleheader later in the day.
