RALEIGH, NC (January 21, 2023) – The Claflin Lady Panthers (9-8, 3-6 CIAA) gave a strong effort, but the team could not overcome a slow start in a 68-65 road loss to the Saint Augustine’s Falcons (6-10, 2-6 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. After falling behind by as many as 18 points, the Lady Panthers stormed back for a big fourth quarter, but the effort was not enough in the loss.

The loss came despite a solid game by the Lady Panthers. As a team, the Lady Panthers shot a solid 42.4% (25-of-59) from the floor, but the team shot just 27.3% (three-for-11) from the three-point line. Claflin senior forward Janell Horton led the effort with a near double-double 11 points with eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Lauren Scott added 11 points with three rebounds while senior forward Breanna Price added 12 points in just eight minutes of play.

With the loss, the Lady Panthers fall to 9-8 overall and 3-6 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play. The team will return to action, Thursday, when they head to Fayetteville, North Carolina to take on the Fayetteville State Lady Broncos.
