ORANGEBURG, SC (January 8, 2022) – The Claflin Lady Panthers (2-11, 1-4 CIAA) found points hard to come by in a 73-51 loss to the Bowie State Bulldogs (4-6, 2-11 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. There was no shortage of effort for the Lady Panthers who were aggressive for all 40 minutes of the game. However, the effort was not enough for the Lady Panthers in the tough loss.

Statistically, the Lady Panthers played a solid game. As a team, the Lady Panthers shot a solid 38.9% (21-of-54) from the floor. Freshman guard Janelle Sample led the way for the Lady Panthers with 11 points and a career-high seven rebounds in the game. Senior guard Dionna Scott added 11 points as well.

The Lady Panthers looked good early in the game, but the team allowed a big second quarter that proved to be costly. The Lady Panthers started the game on a high note as the team took an early lead. A pair of Long free throws with 3:53 left in the first quarter gave the Lady Panthers their largest lead, 10-6. However, the team allowed a late run by the Bulldogs to finish the quarter trailing, 19-12. The second quarter was when the Lady Panthers were outscored 22-10 to take a 41-22 halftime deficit.

In the second half, the Lady Panthers made a late comeback effort, but the team was hampered by some third quarter struggles. At the end of the third quarter, the Lady Panthers  trailed the Bulldogs 62-39. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Panthers made an effort to get back into the game, but the team could only manage 11 total points and finished the game with the 73-51 loss.

With the loss, the Lady Panthers fall to 2-11 and 1-4 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play.
