CHARLOTTE, NC (April 12, 2023) – The Claflin Lady Panthers (21-9, 7-1 CIAA) continued to roll when the team closed out their doubleheader with a 6-1 road win over the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls (4-15, 3-9 CIAA), Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Panthers were able to clamp down on defense and held the Golden Bulls to just one run in the win.

As a team, the Lady Panthers were efficient. The team totaled six hits and were able convert those into six runs with just four players left on base. Claflin senior first base Alexandria Beavers led the way with a two-for-three batting performance with two runs scored and two runs batted in (RBI).

The Lady Panthers scored early to jump ahead in the win. Senior designated player Jaelyn Jackson hit an RBI double in the first inning that was followed with an RBI double from freshman catcher Zecariya Fenwick before a Beavers two-RBI home run left the team with a 4-0 lead. The Lady Panthers allowed a JCSU score in the bottom of the first inning, but the team allowed no more. After adding a third-inning run on an RBI sacrifice fly from freshman Kourtney White, the Lady Panthers rounded out the scoring with an RBI single from sophomore pitcher Breyanna Collins.

Collins (8-4) got the starting bid and threw all seven innings. She finished the game with just one earned run allowed in the game.

With the win, the Lady Panthers improve to 21-9 and 7-1 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play. The team will return to action, Sunday when they head to Salisbury, North Carolina to take on the Livingstone College Blue Bears.
