ORANGEBURG, SC (February 24, 2024)—Senior guard Cassandra Colon tossed in a team-high 17 points and grabbed six (6) rebounds to lead South Carolina State to an, 69-61, win over Delaware State in MEAC Women’s Basketball action Saturday (Feb.24) inside Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.

The Lady Bulldogs improve to 2-23 overall, 1-9 in the MEAC snapping a 16-game losing streak with the victory.

Teammates Morgan Beachman added 15 points and three (3) assist, while freshman forward Taniya McGowan chipped in 13 points and six (6) rebound respectively on the day. Freshman center Heaven Harper posted a solid effort with a team-high 12 rebounds along with senior forward Jayah Hicks six (6) points and nine (9) rebounds.

Despite a game-high 20 turnovers, the Lady Bulldogs led in several categories including points in the paint (35-26), points off turnovers (18-17), and rebounding (45-39).

The Lady Hornets fall to 6-16 overall, 2-7 in the league and were led by Deyonce Thompson with a game-high 20 points and six (6) rebounds, while McKenzie Steward finished with a 14 rebounds in the loss.

NEXT UP: South Carolina State will host Maryland Eastern Shore on Monday (Feb.26) in the MEAC doubleheader with the women in a 5:30 p.m. start, followed by the men in a 7:30 p.m. tipoff inside Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
