PRINCESS ANNE, MD (April 4, 2023) —South Carolina State softball team improved to 3-20 overall, 2-5 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) after a split over the weekend with Maryland Eastern Shore.

The first day of action was cancelled due to inclement of bad weather.

On Sunday (April 2nd) both teams resumed play in a league doubleheader with SC State falling short 10-11 in game 1.  Meanwhile, in game 2 it was the SC State dominating 12-5, finishing with 16 hits to 8 over UMES.

The Lady Bulldogs are currently 6th in MEAC standings, ahead of Delaware State (6-18 overall, 2-6 MEAC) and Coppin State (4-18 overall, 1-7 in the MEAC).

Taylor Ames-Alexander drove in four runs and scored three times against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Destiny Calloway picked up the win against Maryland Eastern Shore, scattering five hits in seven innings.

Kylie Nelson was 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBIs in game two of the doubleheader against Maryland Eastern Shore.

With 14 games remaining in the season, South Carolina State rounds out the remainder of the schedule with Norfolk State (3rd in MEAC at 14-15 overall, 5-4 in MEAC) on April 7th -8th; Howard (5th in MEAC at 9-18 overall, 2-4 in MEAC) on April 15th -16th , non-conference matchup with College of Charleston(DH) (10-19 overall, 5-4) on April 19th ; Morgan State (2nd in MEAC at 16-12 overall, 7-0 in MEAC), and Coppin State (4-18 overall, 1-7 in MEAC) on April 29th-30th in Orangeburg.

Head Coach Tatjana Matthews is in her 4th season at 10-94 overall.

2023 MEAC SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT: The 2023 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) softball tournament is scheduled for May 11th-14th, 2023, in Norfolk, VA.
