ORANGEBURG, S.C. (March 15, 2023) – The South Carolina State women’s tennis team captured back-to-back wins in a, 4-2, defeat over Illinois State Wednesday (March.15th) and the Hardeep Judge Tennis Center.

The Lady Bulldogs improve to 4-5 overall, and Illinois State falls to 7-5.

In their last outing, the Lady Bulldogs defeated Bucknell, 5-2, in non-conference play Tuesday (March 14th) in Orangeburg, SC.

“This was a great win against the defending MVC Conference Champions Illinois State,” said SC State head coach Hardeep Judge.” Our doubles play set the tone for the match. We knew winning the doubles point would   be a big lift for us heading into singles.”

South Carolina State captured the doubles point early with wins at the No. 1 and No.3 spot.

In single actions, the Lady Bulldogs were able to secure wins at the No. 1, No. 4 and No. 6 spots to clinch the match by a final score of 4-2.

Judge noted, “In singles we played well. Hopefully we can use this big win for our program heading into league play.”

NEXT UP: South Carolina State resumes play in the MEAC Tennis Roundup held in Cary, NC. The Lady Bulldogs take on Howard in an 12 noon contest, beginning Thursday (March.16th).
