ORANGEBURG, SC (February 5, 2024)—Sophomore guard Angel Jones tossed in a game-high 17 points to lead Coppin State to an, 63-39, victory over South Carolina State in MEAC Women’s Basketball play Monday (Feb.5) inside Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.

South Carolina State (1-21 overall, 0-7 MEAC) was led by Jordan Releford with a team-high 11, while teammate Cassandra Colon added 10 points. Morgan Beachman added nine (9) points and three steals in the loss.

Laila Lawrence chipped in 11 points for Coppin State (7-13 overall, 4-2 MEAC) on the day.

Costly turnovers seemed to be the deciding factor down the stretch as the Lady Bulldogs finished with a game-high 23.

NEXT UP: South Carolina State returns to action on Saturday. Feb. 17th on the road at Norfolk State in a 2 p.m. start, followed by a showdown with Howard on Monday, Feb. 19th in Washington, DC in a 5:30 p.m. start.
