ORANGEBURG, SC (January 22, 2023) – Sophomore guard/forward Lovely Sonnier posted her fifth double-double of the season, grabbing a career-high 19 rebounds and tossing in 17 points to fall short in an 58-52 decision to Maryland-Eastern Shore Saturday (Jan.21st) at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.

South Carolina State falls to 1-16 overall, 0-2 in the MEAC while UMES improves to 5-13 overall, 1-3 in the league.

Janiah Hinton chipped in nine points, while Mekayla Lumpkin and Nicole Gwynn added eight in the loss.

Despite a game-high 22 turnovers, the Lady Bulldogs fell short from the free-throw shooting 57.7 % (15-of-26) from the charity stripe.

NEXT UP: The Lady Bulldogs continue league play on Monday, Jan. 23rd against Delaware State in a 5:30 p.m. start.
