CHARLOTTE, NC (October 18, 2022) – The Claflin Lady Panthers remain one of the best defensive teams in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and one of the leaders of the team’s defensive efforts, sophomore libero Jasmine Kirkland was honored as the CIAA Food Lion Defensive Player of the Week. She took home the honor after leading the Lady Panthers to a five-set win at Johnson C. Smith last week.
Kirkland’s play was one of the key elements to the Lady Panthers’ victory. She led the team with 20 digs and a career-high six assists in the win. The effort marked the fourth time that Kirkland reached the 20-dig mark.
The Lady Panthers will return to action, Thursday, when the team hosts the Fayetteville State Broncos in a 6:00 p.m. match. For more information on Lady Panthers volleyball, contact the Claflin University Office of Athletics Media Relations at (803) 535-5548 or log on to www.athletics.claflin.edu.
