Jackson, Fenwick Earn CIAA Softball Weekly Honors

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Claflin Lady Panthers had some great performances at the 2023 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Softball Round Up and it showed when the CIAA Food Lion Softball Players of the Week were announced. Claflin senior Jaelyn Jackson was named the CIAA Food Lion Pitcher of the Week while  freshman catcher Zecariya Fenwick was named the CIAA Food Lion Softball Rookie of the Week.

Jackson brought home the honor after some dominant performances over the six games. She finished the weekend totaling 26.3 innings of pitching and she totaled 41 total strikeouts in six games. She went 4-1 pitching.  The highlight of the week came when she led the Lady Panthers to a 17-0 win over Virginia Union where she thres a perfect game with no hits, walks, or batters allowed and the team recorded no fielding errors. She had 12 strikeouts against Bowie State and seven strikeouts in games against Lincoln (Pa.) and Virginia State.Tuesday’s honor marks the second time that Jackson has been named the CIAA Food Lion Softball Pitcher of the Week this season.

Fenwick continued her terrific freshman season with another great week for the Lady Panthers. Over the weekend, she recorded a .455 batting average with 10 hits in 22 at-bats. She also recorded eight runs scored with five runs batted in (RBI). The effort also included two doubles and a home run. This marks Fenwick’s second CIAA Food Lion Softball Rookie of the Week honor this season.
