NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 1, 2023 — South Carolina State sophomore Erick Hill was among the athletes earning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) weekly track and field honors, presented by Coca Cola, the conference office announced Tuesday.The Raytown, MO native was named Men’s Field Athlete of the Week.
Norfolk State senior Kai Cole was named MEAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, Norfolk State sophomore Mercyline Kimaiyo was selected as Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while Morgan State sophomore Inara Shell earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors.
Hill (So., Raytown, Mo.) leapt 7.14 meters (23’5.25″) to win the long jump at the Alachua County Collegiate Invitational, setting the conference’s best mark in the event for the weekend – and ranking third in the MEAC in the long jump for the season.
Cole (Sr., Alexandria, Va.) won a pair of events at the VMI Winter Classic, taking gold in the 60 meters with a 6.72 and winning the 200 meters after running a 21.32. He currently boasts the MEAC’s fastest time in the 60 meters, while his 200-meter time ranks second in the league.
Kimaiyo (So., Kaptagat, Kenya) won the 5,000 meters at the VMI Winter Classic, putting three seconds on the field enroute to running a MEAC-best 17:53.93. She also recorded a top-10 finish in the mile run, completing the race in 5:19.33.
Shell (So., Philadelphia, Pa.) won a pair of gold medals this past weekend at the Terrier Classic, winning both the long jump and the triple jump. She leapt 5.90 meters (19’4.25″) in the long jump, the second-best distance in the MEAC this season, and she is third in the conference in the triple jump after recording a distance of 12.08 meters (39’7.75″).

Latifa Ali (Coppin State) was second in the women’s 200 meters (24.06) and fifth in the women’s 60 meters (7.48) at Penn State.
James Bell (Coppin State) was second in the men’s high jump at Penn State, clearing 2.06 meters.
Daniel Cunningham (Coppin State) ran a 48.85 in the men’s 400 meters at Penn State, finishing sixth.
Alliyah Ottley (Morgan State) came in fourth in the women’s 60-meter hurdles at the Terrier Classic, running an 8.80.
Derick Robinson (Morgan State) won the men’s long jump at the Terrier Classic at 6.81 meters.
