NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 19, 2022—South Carolina State freshman Erick Hill was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference announced today.

Others earning honors were, Norfolk State junior Kai Cole was named Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, and Coppin State junior Kimani Alphonse was selected as Women’s Track Athlete. Howard senior Diana Effiom earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, respectively.

Hill (Fr., Raytown, Mo.) leaped 7.40 meters (24 feet, 3.5 inches) to come in second in the long jump this past weekend at the Gamecock Opener, setting the MEAC’s best mark and ranking 40th in the nation.

Cole (Jr., Alexandria, Va.) ranks in the top 50 nationally in two events after his performance this past weekend at the Gamecock Opener. He is ninth in the nation in the 200-meter dash after running a MEAC-best 21.04 to finish second, and he won the 60-meter dash with a 6.74, which ranks tied for 40th in the nation and second in the MEAC.

Alphonse (Jr., Laborie, St. Lucia) ranks second in the MEAC in both the 400-meter dash and 4×400-meter relay after her performance at the HBCU Showcase. She ran a 56.60 to win the 400 meters, and she ran the second leg of the relay squad that came in second with a time of 3:51.15.

Effiom (Sr., Dallas, Texas) won the weight throw at the HBCU Showcase with a personal-best and school-record mark of 17.28 meters (56 feet, 8.25 inches), which is also the top mark in the conference so far this season by nearly three feet.

Other Top Performers
Jeff Hammond (Coppin State) won the long jump at the HBCU Showcase with a leap of 7.34 meters.

Joseph Manu (Coppin State) won the 60 meters at the HBCU Showcase with a MEAC-best 6.73.

Kaelyn Woodrum (Coppin State) was second in the long jump at the HBCU Showcase at 5.22 meters.

Ayoade Adebiyi (Howard) set a school record in the 3,000-meter run at the HBCU Showcase, running an 8:48.47.

Michael Codrington (Howard) recorded a MEAC-best mark of 15.80 meters in the weight throw at the HBCU Showcase, coming in second.

Sherri-Ann Norton (Howard) ran a 24.56 to win the 200 meters at the HBCU Showcase.

Mackel Pierrilus (Maryland Eastern Shore) won the high jump at the HBCU Showcase with a leap of 1.82 meters.

Zackery Dillon (Morgan State) won the shot put with a personal-best distance of 16.40 meters at the HBCU Showcase.

Terine Lambert (Morgan State) won the shot put at the HBCU Showcase with a distance of 12.55 meters.

Alliayah Ottley (Morgan State) won the 60-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 8.73 at the HBCU Showcase, ranking fourth in the MEAC.

Keon Rantin (Morgan State) was named MVP of the HBCU Showcase after winning the 200 meters (21.77) and 4×200-meter relay (1:29.16).

Indya Richards (Norfolk State) ranks second in the MEAC in the 60-meter hurdles (8.52) and fourth in the 60-meter dash (7.62) after her performance at the Gamecock Opener.

Camren Wynder-Hill (Norfolk State) was third in the triple jump (14.05m) and fourth in the long jump (7.11m) at the Gamecock Opener.

Leslie Young (Norfolk State) placed third in both the shot put (13.08m) and weight throw (16.46m) at the Gamecock Opener.

Jada Banks (South Carolina State) ran a MEAC-best 5:13.42 in the mile run at the Gamecock Opener to finish eighth.
