NORFOLK, VA (May 10, 2023) – South Carolina State’s Erick Hill earned the bronze medal in the long jump for the Bulldogs at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships Wednesday at Dick Price Stadium.
Hill had a leap of 7.00m (22-11.75 ft.), recording his best time of the outdoor season for the Bulldogs, who are tied for sixth in the men’s competition.
Dexter Ratliff finished fifth (47.79m, 22-11.75 ft.) in the hammer to earn four points for the men, while Jada Banks was third in the 3000 steeple chase 11:52.12) for six points and Sydney Cooper seventh in the Heptathlon (3166 points) for two points for the women.
The SCSU men had 17 points, while the women tallied 13 points for sixth place in the women’s competition. Host Norfolk State lead the men with 67.50 points while Morgan State amassed 83 points to lead the women’s competition.
Coach Donald Cooper’s teams will have a chance to add to their total on Thursday, the final day of the competition, as they qualified several student-athletes for the finals.
SCSU qualifiers on Wednesday in the men’s division were Waddell Rembert-Jett and Kristopher Brown in the 100 meters, Jaden Barker in the 400 meters, Matron Thornton in the 800 meters, Angelica Frederick in the women’s 100 meters and Debrielle Williams in the women’s 800 meters.
SCSU will also compete in the men’s and women’s 4×100 and 4×400-meter relay teams, the men’s and women’s 5000 meters, the women’s pole vault, and the men and women’s javelin.
