Four Lady Panthers Named to CIAA All-Rookie Team

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Lady Panthers softball team features some of the top freshmen in the conference and the honors came rolling in as four Claflin student-athletes were honored as members of the 2023 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Softball All-Rookie Team. The Lady Panthers’ quartet signaled a bright future for the program.

The quartet featured some of the top student-athlete newcomers in the CIAA. Claflin catcher Zecariya Fenwick leads the group as she compiled a .446 batting average at the end of the regular season, the fifth highest in the conference. She also added 33 runs batted in (RBI) with 33 runs scored. Infielder Kourtney White finished the regular season with a .344 batting average, totaling 20 runs scored along with 18 RBI. Fellow freshman short stop Cydney Cooper closed out the regular season with a .267 batting average and she added 34 runs scored with 17 RBI. Rounding out the quartet was freshman outfielder Me’Auhre Lewis, who was limited by injury, but she finished the regular season, batting .436 with 12 runs scored and 12 RBI.

The Lady Panthers will turn their attention to the post-season where the team will open the 2023 CIAA Softball Championship Tournament on Tuesday.
