Duane Henderson, Jr. vs.

ORANGEBURG, SC (February 4, 2024) – The Claflin Panthers (0-1) showed some flashes of terrific play, but it was not enough when the team took a 3-2 loss to the Morris College (S.C.) Hornets in their season opener at Historic Mirmow Field. The Panthers played well through most of the game, but some costly fielding errors were too much for the team to overcome in the loss.

The Panthers had a solid day despite the loss. As a team, the Panthers compiled five hits in the game. Five Panthers recorded a hit each in the game. Claflin senior designated hitter Malcolm Brown went one-for-three at the plat with a run scored and an RBI. Junior third base Kimon Quarles added a one-for-two batting effort with a walk and an RBI.

Claflin senior pitcher Kyle Hawkins (0-1) threw the entire game with the start. He threw seven innings with five runs allowed (four earned) with six strikeouts.

With the loss, the Panthers open the season with a 0-1 record. The two teams would go on to complete the doubleheader later in the day.
