Signees

ORANGEBURG, SC (January 9, 2023) — South Carolina State head women’s softball coach Tatjana Matthews has announced the signing of six players to National Letters of Intent (NLI) for the upcoming 2023-24 season.

Joining the Lady Bulldogs this upcoming season will be utility player Ciara Farrar,  (catcher) Kauree Munyan,(utility) Makayla Chisolm, (catcher/outfielder) Mikenna Williams, (pitcher/center fielder) Aaliyah Williams, (pitcher) Dymond Roundtree.

CIARA FARAAR a native from Charlotte, NC, played her  prep career at Charlotte Country Day School. This past four years she was named American Legion Fastpitch Coaches Award and was named Pitcher of the Year during her senior year in 2022.  During the 2021 season she was named CCDS Most Valuable Player and Softball All Conference Honorable Mentioned. Off the field Farrar was the Vice President of the Black Student Union and a member of the national honor society.

 

KAUREE MUNYAN played her prep career at Laurens High School in Laurens, SC. During her career, she was name Player of the Year and Offensive Most Valuable Player. Munyan also selected to the SC All-State Team, 2x All-County Team, and 2x All-Region Team.

 

MAKAYLA CHISOLM played her prep career at Collection County High School in Cottageville, SC, where she was a three-sport letterman in Basketball, Softball, and Track & Field. Her accolades include the following:  BASKETBALL -MVP 2020-2021, Cougar Award JV Girls Basketball 2018-2019, Region 7-AAAA All Region Team 2021-2022, SOFTBALL- MVP -2019, Most Athletic- 2022, Most Performance Award- 2022, All Region 7-AAAA , 2021, Region 7-AAAA-All Region Honors 2022, TRACK– MVP – 2022, All- State Honors Class AAAA, Track and Field 4×100 Meters Relay, Region 7- AAAA All Region Honors Track and Field, 4×100 Meters Relay 2022, Region 7- AAAA All Region Honors Track and Field- 100 Meters Dash 2022.

AALIYAH WILLIAMS, a native of Pooler, GA, played her prep career at Islands High School. Williams was a standout in both softball and track. She received the following honors: High School Softball-2019-2020 selected to First Team All-Region (as a freshman, help lead team to playoff and register first playoff win in school history, as co-pitcher/center fielder), 2019-2020 Coastal Empire/Sports Awards Honoree, 2020-2021 Selected Co-Player of The Year and Runner-up Pitcher of the Year, 2020-2021 First Team All-Region, 2020-2021 Coastal Empire/Sports Awards Honoree, 2020-2021 Islands High School Softball MVP, 2021-2022 First Team All-Region, 2021-2022 Coastal Empire/Sports Awards Honoree, 2021-2022 Islands High School Softball MVP. Track & Field- 2020-2021 Islands High School Track & Field MVP, School Record Holder in 100 m (12.48 sec.), 200 m (26.85), and 400 m, 2021-2022 Islands High School Track & Field MVP, School Record Holder in 100mH (15.14 sec) and Long Jump (16.90ft).

MIKENNA WILLIAMS a native of Charlotte, NC, who also played her career at Charlotte Country Day School. A standout and four-year starter, Williams earned several top awards including the Hot Stove Catcher of the Year Award, back-to-back All-Conference Team honors, 2022 Hustle Award Winner. She also lettered in track where she was a national qualifier, made All-State, and 2021 All-Conference Team.

DYMOND ROUNDTREE a native of Maitland, FL, attended Winter Park High and transfer from Chipola College, was a varsity starter since her freshman year. She received the following honors:  2019 MVP award for Winter Park HS (record 13-0, pitched 11 games, 5 runs allowed), in 2020 led the team in strikeouts, qualified for nationals in TN, Metro East Tournament Champions, 2021 Varsity Softball Pitcher of the Year, Undefeated District Champion, Undefeated Metro Champion, and All Metro Team.
