Claflin Track & Field Posts Great Performances at Electric City Invitational

ANDERSON, SC (April 18, 2023) – The Claflin University men’s and women’s track & field teams returned to the track for some solid performances at the 2023 Electric City Invitational hosted by Anderson University. As the team prepares for competition in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), the Lady Panthers and Panthers recorded some of the top times in the conference during the meet.

It was on the track where the Panthers had their biggest impact. Sophomore long sprinter Zion Murry set the tone when he placed eighth in the men’s 800m run with a 1:55.07, the top time in the CIAA. Freshman Reginald Gore continued to show why he is one of the top distance runners in the CIAA when he placed 22nd in the men’s 1500m run with a 4:13.57, the second-best time in the CIAA. Fellow freshman Jakarriez Sanders added a 23rd place finish with a 4:14.83, the fourth-best time in the CIAA. Freshman Javeon Riley won the men’s 400m hurdles when he ran a 53.77, also the fourth-best time in the CIAA. The Panthers’ 4x400m relay team also took first place in their event with a 3:14.35, the second-best time in the CIAA.

For the women’s team, it was freshman Pheijana Burnside who led the way. She placed 10th in the women’s 400m hurdles with a 1:08.15. She also placed 18th in the women’s 100m dash with a 12.78. Sophomore Zoe Adams placed 15th in the women’s 800m run with a 2:24.96, the time is currently the 10th best time in the CIAA.

The Claflin University men’s and women’s track & field teams will return to action, Saturday, when they take part in the Georgia Tech Invite.
