
ORANGEBURG, SC (November 1, 2022) —The Erik Martin era started out in style as the South Carolina State men’s basketball team posted an, 78-63, win over West Virginia Tech Tuesday (Nov. 1st) in exhibition play at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
Preseason All-MEAC selection senior guard Rashaan Edwards finished with a game-high 16 points on the night, while JUCO transfer Lesown Edwards added 15 points and seven (7) rebounds in the win.
The Bulldogs led in several categories including rebounding (31-26), assists (21-11) points off turnovers (14-13), points in paint (40-24), 2nd chance points (11-7) and bench points (33-14).
South Carolina State had help off the bench with Davion Everett leading the way with 10 points, DaJuan Bates eight (8), Raquan Brown with six (6) points and six (6) rebounds, while freshman guard Jordan Simpson added five (5) points and three (3) rebounds in 20 minutes of play.
UP NEXT: South Carolina State opens the regular season on the road against intrastate rival and SEC foe South Carolina Tuesday (Nov.8th) at Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, SC. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
