DURHAM, NC (October 27, 2023) —The Bulldogs came up short of giving legendary coach Buddy Pough his 150th career win in a tough 62-28 loss to host and defending MEAC Champion #10 North Carolina Central Thursday (Oct. 26th) in O’Kelly-Riddick Stadium.

True Freshman Jawarn Howell finished with his third straight 100-yard rushing game with 9 carries, 126-yards and 1 TD. Freshman quarterback Andre Washington added to the mix with three (3) rushes for 50-yards and a score.

Redshirt junior linebacker Aaron Smith led the charge on defense with six (6) tackles, while graduate defensive back Jaylen Evans added five (5) in the loss.

South Carolina State falls to 3-5 overall, 1-1 in the MEAC, while NCCU improves to 7-1 overall, 2-0 in the league.

Next Up South Carolina State will host visiting Howard Saturday (Nov. 4th) for “HOMECOMING 2023” at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium on Willie F. Jeffries Field. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. and will be televised live on ESPNU.
