ORANGEBURG, SC (October 14, 2023)-–Graduate quarterback Corey Fields, Jr. threw for a game-high 224-yards connecting 17-of-34-1 and a touchdown, but it wasn’t enough as Tennessee Tech scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to claim an 28-7 victory over South Carolina State Saturday (Oct.14th) at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium|Willie Jeffries Field.

The Bulldogs fall to 2-4 overall, while the Golden Eagles improved to 2-4.

Both teams struggle early on closing out the first half with an 7-7 tie. The Bulldogs jumped on the board early with a 90-yards touchdown scamper with a pass from Fields, Jr. to freshman running back Jawarn Howell at the 14:04 mark in the first quarter.

The Golden Eagles running back Marcus rushed for a career-best on touchdown score of 18-yard, 6-yards, and a 4-yard to improve the score 21-7 at the 9:49 mark in the fourth quarter.

Pegues closed out the game on a 1-yard punch with 0:48 seconds remaining to claim an 28-7 win.

Redshirt junior linebacker led the way on defense with a game-high 12 tackles, one sack and 1.5 tackles for loss, while Jamare Benjamin added eight (8) in the loss.

NEXT UP: South Carolina State will open Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play Saturday, Oct. 21st on the road against Delaware State in Dover, DE.
