ORANGEBURG, SC (February 26, 2023) —Three Bulldogs finished in double figures with Cameron Jones leading the way with a team-high 15 points and six rebounds along with four (4) assist but it wasn’t enough, as South Carolina State dropped a tough 88-76 setback to top-ranked Norfolk State Saturday (Feb.25th) at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.

South Carolina State falls to 5-23 overall, 2-10 in the MEAC, while Norfolk State improves to 22-5 overall, 10-2 in the league.

Latavian Lawrence added 13 points and six rebounds, while Rakiem Gary chipped in 10 points in the loss.

The Spartans were led by last years MEAC Player of the Year Joe Bryant with 24 points and four rebounds.

Next up: South Carolina State returns to action on Monday (Feb.27th) versus Howard in an MEAC doubleheader with the women beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men in an 7:30 p.m. start at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.

2023 MEAC TOURNAMENT: The 2023 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) men’s and women’s basketball tournament is scheduled for March 8-11, 2023, at the Norfolk Scope Arena in Norfolk, Va. The annual MEAC Basketball Tournament moved to Norfolk in 2013 after spending the previous four years in Winston-Salem, N.C. from 2009 through 2012.
