ORANGEBURG, SC (February 19, 2024)—South Carolina State assistant football coaches Na’Shan Goddard and Kevin King were selected to participate in the 2024 NCAA and NFL Coaches Academy, which runs Feb. 20-24 in Charlotte, NC.

The NCAA and NFL Coaches Academy provides current, full-time college football coaches at NCAA member schools an educational opportunity to build connections and develop leadership acumen to pursue their career aspirations.

Goddard is his seventh season overall on the Bulldog coaching staff and first on head coach Chennis Berry staff, while King previously served as an assistant with Berry at Benedict. Both were one of 25 NCAA coaches selected to participate in the academy that builds connections and develops leadership skills.

Goddard currently serves as the Offensive Line Coach and NFL Pro-Liaison. He was a part of two (2) Mid-Eastern Athletic (MEAC) titles and a 2021 Cricket Wireless Celebration Bowl Championship where the Bulldogs were crowned HBCU National Champions. In 2023 the offensive line was ranked fifth (5th) in FCS National rankings in rushing average of 220 yards per game, with over 2600 rushing yards for the season.

King serves as the Special Teams Coordinator and Safeties coach. He recently was an assistant at Benedict College where he was the Special Teams Coordinator and Safeties Coach. During his time at Benedict College, Coach King was a part of back-to-back SIAC Championships, also back-to-back Top 5 Defenses in the country at the Division 2 level.

As coaches at the academy, Goddard and King will engage in and discuss a wide range of issues with esteemed peers and industry professionals, which will improve their capacity to serve, lead, and teach student-athletes as an effective coach both on and off the field.

Topics will include effective communication with campus and community constituents, the importance of building a culture focused on the overall success of the student-athletes, budget management of a football program, and coaching strategies and philosophies. Equally vital will be discussion about managing themselves personally throughout the rigors associated with life as a coach.
