Zion Obanla vs. Benedict

ORANGEBURG, SC (January 11, 2024) – There was no shortage of effort, but the Claflin Panthers (6-6) came up short when the team took an 81-73 loss to the Benedict Tigers (13-0), Thursday evening. The Panthers played a solid overall game, but the team could not get the stops they needed in the hard-fought loss.

As a team, the Panthers gave a great overall effort. The team shot 40.0% (30-of-75) in the game. Three Panthers reached double-digit scoring in the game with junior guard Damerius Wash leading the way. For the game, he totaled 15 points with eight rebounds and a blocked shot. Fellow junior forward Zion Obanla added a double-double 12 points with 13 rebounds and three blocks. Senior guard Jailen Williams added 11 points with four assists.

With the loss, the Panthers fall to 6-6 overall. The team will return to action, Saturday, when they head to Ettrick, Virginia to take on the Virginia State Trojans.
