DURHAM, NC (May 8, 2023) – The Claflin Lady Panthers concluded the 2023 outdoor track & field season at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship Meet. The team finished the meet with some quality performances.
“Zoe Adams led the way with a great performance in the 400m dash,” said Claflin University women’s track & field head coach Garon Jackson. “Her hard work and dedication to improving definitely played a role in her overall performance.”
It was on the track where Adams made her presence known. She won the women’s 400m dash with a 55.18. The time was an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time, but it was her second-best time of the season. She also placed fourth in the women’s 200m dash with a 24.73. Freshman Pheijana Burnside added an eighth-place finish in the women’s 100m hurdles with a 15.64. She also placed seventh in the women’s 400m hurdles with a 1:07.47.
The Lady Panthers’ relay teams also had a great day as well. The women’s 4x100m relay team placed seventh with a 48.65 while the 4x400m relay team placed sixth with a 3:57.87. As a team, the Lady Panthers totaled 23 points to finish eighth in the meet.
“We will be a better program next year,” Jackson added. “We’ve signed some of the state’s best athletes and they will have an impact just like the men’s freshmen did this year.”
