JACKSONVILLE, FL (April 30, 2023) – The Claflin University men’s and women’s track & field teams had some strong performances at the East Coast Relays hosted by the University of North Florida. Both teams had some impressive showings in their final meet before the conference championship meets.
It was on the track where the Lady Panthers had their best showings. Sophomore sprinter Zoe Adams continued to show why she is one of the top sprinters in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) when she placed 12th in the women’s 400m dash with a 54.41. The time was an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time for the sophomore. It marked the second straight season where she ran a qualifying time in the event. The time is also the top time in the conference. Fellow sophomore Madison McDonald had a solid day as well when the ran a 5:24.54 in the women’s 1500m run. It was her top 1500m time of the season.
The Panthers were equally impressive on the track as well. Freshman Reginald Gore continued to show why he is one of the top newcomers to the CIAA when he ran a 1:53.99 to place 27th in the men’s 800m run, the top time in the CIAA. Sophomore Zion Murry ran a 1:54.18 to place 30th. Sophomore Darius Holmes placed 21st in the men’s 110m hurdles with a 15.17, the sixth best time in the CIAA.
The teams will now turn their focus to the 2023 CIAA Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The two-day meet will take place on May 5-6th at Durham County Memorial Stadium.
